It is a great source of pride to look back and realize the dignified journey, full of achievements, that Tuper has built over the past 54 years. All of us who have contributed to this established history and are part of this great family should be proud!
We fondly remember the beginning of Metalúrgica Sicap’s activities. The immense difficulties we faced along the way were overcome with hard work, dedication, and entrepreneurship. We expanded our areas of operation and grew year after year until we became one of the largest steel processors in Latin America, with a state-of-the-art industrial park. We are immensely grateful to every person who contributed, in some way, to this successful journey.
At every step, the principles of trust, respect, ethics, and seriousness in business were always present—values that Frank Bollmann, CEO and president of Tuper for more than 50 years, made a point of emphasizing and prioritizing in the day-to-day operations of the company, alongside the employees.
In 2015, Tuper was strongly impacted by the economic crisis that hit Brazil. This led the company to establish a strategic partnership with ArcelorMittal in 2016, when the steel producer acquired a 40% stake in Tuper.
After a full recovery, driven by excellent operational and commercial performance, and the brand’s credibility in the market, as well as the excellence and recognition of the product quality, discussions began regarding the purchase and sale of Tuper between the shareholders. After all, Tuper is a world-class company, one of the few in its segment, which explains the interest in its acquisition by one of the largest steel producers in the world.
In light of this context, we inform you that the shareholders of Tuper S/A have reached an agreement for the full sale of the company to the ArcelorMittal Group.
The acquisition of the remaining 60% was submitted to the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) for approval in March of this year. The expectation is that CADE’s response will be concluded within the next 60 to 90 days, after which, if approved, Tuper will become a wholly owned subsidiary of ArcelorMittal. In the meantime, the company’s management remains unchanged.
With this acquisition, ArcelorMittal – the largest steel producer in Brazil and a global leader in the sector – intends to further invest in strengthening Tuper and its team, maintaining its recognized commitment to excellence, innovation, and respect for people.
With the purpose of creating intelligent steels for people and the planet, ArcelorMittal operates industrial facilities in eight Brazilian states (Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina, Ceará, Bahia, São Paulo, and Mato Grosso do Sul) and employs approximately 20,000 people in the country.
Together, we will work to ensure a transition that values the 54 years of activity and the approximately 1,800 employees who are part of Tuper’s history.
We are confident that this partnership will bring many achievements. We count on each one of you to continue building this successful journey.
Frank Bollmann
President of the Tuper Group
